Humanities BACHELORS DEGREE| APRIL 2011 | FORT LEWIS COLLEGE Major: Gender & Women’s Studies Related coursework: U.S. History MASTERS OF ARTS IN EDUCATION| FORT LEWIS COLLEGE| IN PROGRESS Content area: Secondary Social Studies Skills & Abilities I have over 8 years of management experience in the hospitality industry, where I developed administrative, communication, and technical skills. I have acquired valuable leadership skills both in and out of the workplace. I served as student body Vice President while attending community college in Southern Maryland and am the recipient of several leadership awards for my time there. As a certified snowboard instructor, I have gained valuable interpersonal and coaching skills. Experience in Education STUDENT TEACHER | MOUNTAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL | SPRING SEMESTER 2018 I completed my student teaching hours in the 7th Grade Humanities classroom in May 2018. This semester-long immersion afforded me the opportunity to design and implement my own unit plan for the Hero’s Journey, which incorporated both ELA and Social Studies lesson plans, as well as a service learning project. The full-time work required of this position taught me so much about the necessity of time management and the importance of collaboration. PRACTICUM HOURS | MOUNTAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL | FALL SEMESTER 2017 I spent the Fall Semester observing in the 7th Grade Humanities classroom for 15-20 hours per week. During this time I was able to work one-on-one with students, facilitate class discussions, monitor group-project work time, and accompany the students on an overnight trip. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the students more and more each day, while discovering new ways to help them succeed. INSTRUCTOR | PURGATORY RESORT | DECEMBER 2008- CURRENT (SEASONAL) I am a Level I AASI Certified Snowboard Instructor; I work primarily with children but also coach an all-women’s clinic, called SheRide, each year. I am very passionate about this sport and am grateful for the opportunity to share this passion with others. EDUCATOR | DARLING TRIBES ACADEMIC PRESCHOOL | AUGUST 2007- AUGUST 2008 As a full-time teacher at this academic preschool, I had a class of 11 three to five year-olds. I was responsible for creating group as well as individualized curriculum in the subject areas of math, science, and reading. This was an eye-opening experience, as I never imagined that children this age could learn to read as easily as they did. Related Work Experience SPA DIRECTOR | THE WOODHOUSE DAY SPA | MARCH 2016-MAY 2017 After Signature Salon.Spa.Med Spa sold the business and property to The Woodhouse Day Spa, I was offered the opportunity to keep my former position. My responsibilities stayed the same, with guest services remaining the best part of the job. SPA DIRECTOR | SIGNATURE SALON.SPA.MED SPA | OCTOBER 2011- DECEMBER 2015 The position of Spa Director included the oversight of daily operations, team scheduling, inventory management, guest services/relations, and business marketing. The most rewarding aspect of this job was guest relations and building connections with each person we served. SHOP MANAGER | SOUTHWEST WHITEWATER | MAY 2009- AUGUST 2011 (SEASONAL) I worked closely with the business owner on daily operations and was responsible for reservations, shop sales, and team scheduling. Southwest Whitewater was a fun work environment that afforded me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, while learning invaluable management skills. STUDENT ASSISTANT | COLLEGE OF SOUTHERN MARYLAND | APRIL 2005- MAY 2007 My first position with CSM was in the Advising Department; my responsibilities included scheduling appointments, filing student documents, and assisting students with online applications. The next department I worked for was Student Life; my responsibilities included planning, organizing, and facilitating events on campus. I worked closely with a faculty advisor and was in charge of a team of students who helped with the execution of campus events.
