Welcome!
Thank you for visiting my new site!
As a brand new teacher, I'm told it's important to have an online presence, for it's here I can introduce myself, reflect on my experiences, communicate with parents and families, and even share my own learning. I hope that whatever your reason for visiting, you find something useful within the pages I'm sharing here.
Teaching Philosophy
"My Work"
a poem by a first year teacher
My work is beautiful,
exciting, and fun.
It is taxing,
all-consuming, exhausting.
My work is thankless,
yet filled with love.
It is enthralling, eye-opening, and rewarding.
My work is heartbreaking,
yet wonderful.
It is about relationships, learning, and growing.
Today and everyday.
My teaching philosophy is quite similar to my parenting style, which has evolved over the years as both my child and I grow each and every day. It may be ever changing, though the focus, attention, love, and compassion remain the same. Its direction may change course from time to time, but the destination remains fixed. The teacher I envision, like the mom I hope I am, is caring and kind, positive and strong, though occasionally uncertain and even highly skeptical at times. Mantras like "lead by example" and "be the change you wish to see in the world" echo in my ears every day, and I am always stunned by the reality that what I do or say has a rippling effect on those around me. This is what I teach. The teacher I see in myself is both silly and serious, funny and dull; empathetic and fair. I'm driven by the desire to encourage, motivate, and empower others; to challenge them, to inspire them to think critically and be reflective.I work diligently to raise my son to be world-minded, inquisitive, considerate, responsible, honest and kind, and I expect the same of my students. My work as a teacher follows the same road map. I wish to encourage bold yet polite and respectful discussions; creative and open-minded thought provocation, both in the classroom and at home. This is my philosophy.
